I read a very interesting article this morning in spiritualityhealth.com – a magazine I highly recommend. The article is name “Baby, It’s Cold Outside” and it discusses how you can
Warm your spirit this winter by taking your yoga practice outdoors.
At first thought you might think this is crazy, but the writer mentions sometimes when we are stuck inside for a few days (with or without power), we can become a little down and lethargic. She recommends even going for a walk can work wonders for your spirit. I try to go for a 30 minute walk everyday now and I notice it’s doing wonders for me! I’ve created a slideshow with a few beautiful photos to show you what I was lucky enough to see this afternoon on my walk.
Onto the Yoga… she recommends that you do a quick session before or after another activity like cross-country skiing. I think this is an awesome idea. I wish I lived in areas where I could find more people to go for walk in the winter chill and maybe even try the yoga before or after. A funny quote from the article states:
Tree pose or warrior pose with snow pants is just fine. Then if you fall over, you just make a snow angel and all is well.
Here’s a winter meditation you can do whether walking, doing yoga or just sitting in the sunshine.
Take a few deep breaths and focus on the smell of the air and the sounds that surround you. Notice the pristine beauty of snow. Observe how the winter sun shines through the ice crystals. Listen for the not-quite-silent snowfall.
Just as the cycle of life is always continuing, you too are in a constant state of change. The snow will melt and the tress will bud again — all in their season. Winter is a time to rest and restoration.
Open yourself to love, and accept these changes of the season. Then focus your love and acceptance on changes you see in yourself and those around you.
Now, WHO’S UP FOR SOME WINTER YOGA AND FUN?? Let me know in the comments below and we’ll hopefully hook up!
Lots of love and Happy New year everyone,
P.S I haven’t been blogging as much lately. I’ve found a new love of art and I am totally addicted. I now have a site up and running with some of my work – www.AdrianNadeau.com – Please check it out and let me know your thoughts!
