How high should you get?

The title of this post might be a little misleading, asking how “high” should you get. If I wrote this about 20 years ago I would be talking about something totally different but we don’t need to go there πŸ™‚

When I played hockey one of my favourite quotes during games was “Let’s not get to high or low in here” I always thought it was very important to stay level and not get to excited when we scored or get to down if things weren’t going our way.

As I’ve gone through the past 2 years, I’ve come to analyze this statement a lot more. I learned quickly that this quote still seems valid to me. The first time I saw that doctor he said I wouldn’t have to have surgery and I would be back to work in 4-6 weeks. I was pretty excited about that news… however, that changed quickly a month later when the same doctor (who I really like) said I should get surgery because it could get much worse as time wears on. It seemed to go back and forth a few times so I decided to not get overly excited or down about things. However, I still live everyday to it’s fullest and am feeling great. I think that’s more important focus on the now and be happy and excited with that instead of our circumstances dictating how we feel.

It’s been quite a rollercoaster of ups and downs, so I’m wondering if it’s good to get excited when things are going good and accept the lows for what they are, as Eddie Vedder so well sings in “Release” – “I’ll ride the wave where it takes me” (lyrics and song below) OR try to stay level and grounded through the ups and downs?

I know a lot of people have different views on this so I think it would be great to hear what everyone thinks? What are your thoughts? Please leave a comment below if you have any advice, thanks!”

Lots of love,

Pearl Jam “Release” –

I see the worldFeel the chill
Which way to go
WindowsillI see the words
On a rocking horse of time
I see the birds in the rain

Oh dear dad
Can you see me now
I am myself
Like you somehow
I’ll ride the wave
Where it takes me
I’ll hold the pain
Release me

Oh dear dad
Can you see me now
I am myself
Like you somehow
I’ll wait up in the dark
For you to speak to me
I’ll open up
Release me
Release me
Release me
Release me

  1. I think Eddie has a good point. I would be much like you and very even keel.

Guess that makes sense since we are brothers. πŸ™‚

But why not enjoy the good times as much as you can? It’s not illegal. πŸ™‚ And during the bad times, we need to know it is ok to feel those as well, but not let them take over our thoughts and mind. Can say the same about the good times as well.

I guess, both ways you need to know that it is just a moment and good or bad, however you judge it, let your ego know that it is just a moment and take it for whatever it is worth right then at that moment.

I don’t know….feeling like I am talking out of my you know what right now, which as you know I do often πŸ™‚

Also, I guess however you decide to handle these moments, that is cool too. πŸ™‚

    1. Good points. I agree that whatever works for each is the way to go. I still like to stay even since life throws so many curve balls our way. It’s kinda the Buddhist way also. Don’t let circumstances dictate how you feel… just appreciate the moment. Namaste
