The many names of our worst enemy, beware!

A few months ago, I asked the serious question –  Is sugar a sweet old friend that is secretly plotting your demise?

sugar

Well, here’s a follow-up to that post (a few months late) listing all the different names sugar can be labelled as on the ingredients of food in your local grocery store.

Be sure to keep a close eye on these. Some of them are more common than others and you’ll recognize them right away:

  • Brown sugar
  • Cane sugar
  • Caramel
  • Corn syrup (very bad)
  • Corn syrup solids (very bad)
  • Dextrose
  • Ethyl maltol
  • Fructose
  • Fruit juice
  • Fruit juice concentrate
  • Glucose
  • Glucose solids
  • High-fructose corn syrup (eeeeks!)
  • Honey
  • Lactose
  • Maltodextrin
  • Maltose
  • Maple syrup
  • Molasses
  • Rice syrup
  • Sorbitol
  • Sucrose
  • Sugar (duh!)

Take care and watch out for these buggers as they can be damaging to your health if you eat too much! Any other names or suggestions?

Cheers,

Adrian
