Dr Sanjay Gupta in full support of legalizing Cannabis… Really???

As some may or may not know, I’ve been very interested in learning more about Cannabis and it’s health benefits  to help treat certain illnesses. I was diagnosed with Epilepsy after my 2 year battle with Brain Cancer and I’ve read and see a lot of possible benefits for people in my situation. I’ve even read that Cannabis can actually destroy Cancer Cells. That would be pretty promising. However, there are many obstacles that seem to be getting in the way of possibly legalizing, this nature plant from being mainstream (I won’t get started on that one).

Interesting enough, last night the second part of Dr Sanjay Gupta’s documentary WEED2″ was on CNN. I watched the first one about a year ago and blew me away that this very popular doctor used to be totally against the idea of legalizing Cannabis but has now flipped totally to the opposite side of the debate and is for it to help people and mainly children who have Epilepsy (some have 300 seizures a day) and others suffering pain from Illnesses such as MS and Cancer, etc.

I’ll leave it to the video to explain more. I highly recommend watching it if you or you know someone who is in any of these circumstances. Things are slowly starting to evolve in the US but I have no idea what Canada’s views are on this topic that is so close to my heart.

Here’s another video, that you must see where a lady in Alaska quits her job on the air because of this situation. She drops an F-bomb so it’s not really family friendly, but very entertaining and great that she took this stand on the air!

Agave Nectar: A Sweetener That is Even Worse Than Sugar… REALLY?

Here’s an interesting article over at Authority Nutrition mentioning how Agave Nectar is more harmful than Sugar! I’ve heard this in the past but there a few key points in here that stick out:

Like many plants in their natural state, Agave probably does have some health benefits.

However, as is so often the case, when the product is processed and refined it tends to lose some (or all) of these beneficial health effects. This appears to be the case with the refined Agave sweetener that people are consuming today.

The starting process is the same. They take the plant, then cut and press it to extract the sugary circulating fluid.

This fluid is high in sugar, but it also contains healthy compounds like fructans, which are linked to beneficial effects on metabolism and insulin (2).

However, when processed into a syrup, the manufacturers break the fructans down into fructose by exposing the sugary fluid to heat and/or enzymes (3, 4).

This process destroys all of the health promoting properties of the Agave plant, but instead produces the concentrated syrup available on store shelves that is falsely claimed to be healthy.

The manufacturing process is similar to how other unhealthy sweeteners are made, such as High Fructose Corn Syrup.

So… the sweetener sold as Agave nectar is NOT truly “nectar” – it is a refined, processed sweetener made from Agave nectar.

If worried about your sugar intake (we all should be!) please read more of the article to get more information on this interesting topic. Any comments? Please leave them before to discuss!

The Food Babe “Drink Starbucks? Wake Up And Smell The Chemicals!”

Hello Everyone,

Anyone seriously interested in their health should definitely get on board and follow one of our favourite blogs/investigators – The Food Babe.

For years, Vani Hari (aka The Food Babe) has been investigating large food corporations and food chains to question their ingredients and how they create their “foods”. She’s had great success and continues her mission with her latest post regarding Starbucks famous pumpkin spice latte’s. If you are a Starbucks fan (as I used to be at one time), I highly recommend you read the post and watch the video of her on a recent news telecast (embedded in the post).

One thing I’ve noticed about Starbucks (as Vani mentions in the video in her post) is that it’s impossible to get ingredient lists for ANYTHING from Starbucks. I’ve asked employee’s there a number of times for ingredient lists for certain “drinks” and they never know any of the ingredients – not the employee’s fault if they aren’t supplied the lists!

She’s also had great success forcing large chains to remove some of their harmful ingredients. For example she’s gotten Subway to remove their “yoga mat” ingredient from their bread and has had many meetings with other chains and corporations.

For more information and to join the Food Babe Army, a growing by the hundreds of thousands of people who care about what large corporations are doing to our “food” you can find and follow her at the following social media links:

Hopefully there will be more and more pressure from the public and bloggers like Vani to help bring a stop to all the garbage that is in most of our food. This sort of thing also reminds us to CHECK THE INGREDIENTS (hilarious video regarding labels) on everything you buy… that is if you want to eat healthy, real food! To each their own…
